Chris Wertz

A graduate of LSU, Chris decided early on that he could use his passion for golf, teaching and helping others with their game. Partnering with Rob Noel after working with several other instructors, he soon became an advocate of Homer Kelly's The Golfing Machine. Under Rob's guidance he learned to apply this information correctly and help students improve. "It gives me a solid blueprint I can use to help my students clearly understand what they need to do. It doesn't matter if they are a professional, a junior or a high handicapper. I can determine which component of the swing that is causing a problem and quickly tell them what they need to work on to correct it" says Chris.
Outgoing and friendly, Chris, who's 30, has enjoyed particular success with juniors. "It's especially rewarding to teach younger players. I get a real thrill when they come back to the lesson tee and tell you about their last tournament." Chris takes special pride in his short-game instructional abilities, because "you can see immediate results there -- the strokes are smaller, it's simpler to make adjustments, and it's a lot easier to learn at that speed. Short-game strokes are one of the things we keep going back to. If somebody doesn't have sound mechanics in a full motion, we've found that going back to shorter motions will help them learn how to apply them correctly.
Chris is a certified TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) fitness instructor. During his certification Chris learned how to effectively screen players to determine their physical limitations. Once the limitations are identified, he can build a workout routine to help eliminate those problems for good. This will help students become more efficient with their motion; it will also help greatly in injury prevention. "For all of my students who have had trouble making changes in their motion, now I can unlock the physical components that may have been the underlying problem." Chris feels that this will be an invaluable addition to his teaching and to the Academy. "Now I feel like I can address every aspect of the swing from technique, to equipment, to a student's physical ability." The combination of these factors will help Chris achieve his main goal, to make his students play better golf.
Chris is an Authorized Instructor of The Golfing MachineĀ® and has earned the designation Golf Stroke Engineering Master (GSEM). He is also a Certified TPI Fitness Instructor.
